Room Six has been learning Japanese since the start on term two.In Term one we studied the country of Japan and made power points.Yuko Sensei comes in to help Inglis Sensei teach us.
We have learnt so far about 'tenki' wich means weather.
Greetings, classroom instuctions, numbers and last week we did oragami and made cranes.
Once you've made a thousand cranes, you can make a wish! This comes from the true story of 'Sadako' and the Thousand Paper Cranes.
Oragami comes from Japan and is the art of making sculptures out of paper by folding.

We have also learned to make boxes and cups.

We all LOVE learning Japanese!!!

The Millionaire Club

The Millionares Club is an award given to students for reading for enjoyment.
All students at our school can work towards this but this is especially aimed at the senior part of the school.
The award is broken into 4 sections: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Millionare club. To attain the Bronze award students must read 50,000 words, Silver award - 250,000 words, Gold award - 500,000 words, and Millionare Club is reached when a student reads 1,000,000 words.
When students are reading for enjoyment, either at home or at school, they keep a log of approximate number of words read.
To do this they count up the words on an average page and multiply it by the number of pages read e.g. if the average page is 200 words and the student read 10pages, the total of 2000 would be entered on the millionaires club log for that day, and initialled by the parent or teacher.
Alternatively students can wait untill they have finished reading the entire book and then enter the amount.
Room 6 have been doing the Millionaires Club and now other classes are going to do it.

How Hedley Hopkins did a dare, robbed a grave, made a new friend who probably wasn’t even there at all and while he was at, committed a terrible sin which everyone was doing even though he didn’t know it.

This is a great book about a 12 year old English boy who comes to an Australia on a ship with his parents. His adventure begins as he moves to a new house, starts a new Aussie school, attempts’ to join a gang, does a horrible, terrifying dare, robs a grave, escapes evil teachers, almost dies, gets attacked by crazy children, fights off swarms of bull ants and learns some of the gross facts of life. What mischief does Hedley Hopkins get up to? You’ll find out when you read this great book!

I would give this book 10 out of 10! Because of the realistic characters, It’ a really action packed story, it really shows the characters feelings and emotions and it shows just what a 12yr old boy would get up too fitting into a new school. Once I finished this book it gave me the sudden urge to read it again! I recommend this book for 12yr olds and up!

I recommend this book because of action. Turn on to any page and there’ll be excitement. When Percy Jackson finds out he’s is a half-blood also know as a demigod his life is completely changed.
Monsters seem to pop up everywhere he goes.
One quest, two friends, monsters to kill and a lighting bolt to find. “ I love it because it really engaged me”. “ I would lie in bed in the morning and just till lunch time”. Age group: I would say 9 to 13. It’s a great action packed book. I would give it a 8 out of 10.

A Series of Unfortunate Events
By Lemony Snicket Harper Collins Publishers

An amazing experience crammed into 13 gripping novels this unput-downable series had me indulged in discovering Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire’s misfortunes as they try to escape the evil clutches of the villainous Count Olaf. Although they are sad these books Lemony Snicket wrote are definitely worth reading. My favourite one is ‘The Ersatz Elevator’ where the children are cruelly tricked but manage to expose yet another attempt to get his evil hands on the Baudelaire. I love this series because it’s a never-ending mystery and leaves you wondering “Will the Baudelaire’s ever escape??”
